Damage to long hair can be more difficult to notice. Keep an eye on out for split ends, excessive breakage, dryness, and tangles! Use these tips to care for your long and damaged hair so you can get it back to its former glory!

Easy and Efficient Tips for Caring for Long Damaged Hair

If your long hair is damaged, it’s not the end of the world. These tips for hair repair will help you repair long damaged hair and keep it from getting damaged in the future!

  • Keep your hair moisturized. Your hair can become brittle and damaged if it gets too dry.
  • Be gentle when you brush your hair. Use a soft brush with flexible bristles. Brush your hair in small sections to avoid causing snags and tears! You can even use a detangling spray to keep from being too rough on tangles.
  • Don’t brush your hair when it’s wet. It can cause further damage and breakage. If you have curly hair, you can comb it when wet using a wide-toothed comb.
  • If you have long hair, high ponytails and tight braids can actually put unwanted strain on your hair. The shafts of your hair can get weak and brittle if it is pulled up tightly too often. Looser styles are much easier on your hair and won’t damage it further!
  • Get your hair trimmed regularly. This will eliminate split ends so your hair can grow! If you don’t get rid of split ends, the damage will move further up the shafts of your hair. You should have the ends trimmed every six to eight weeks to maintain healthy hair!
  • Avoid having your hair processed too often. Don’t get your hair colored in the same visit that you get it relaxed or permed. If you do want to get these treatments done, wait two weeks in between each visit to the salon. This will give your hair time to recover.

Use Hair Care Products to Repair Long Damaged Hair

There are so many different hair products on the market that help repair long damaged hair. Choose the ones that will best suit the needs of your hair!

  • If your hair is damaged from over processing, use shampoos and conditioners designed to repair color-treated hair. Color protecting shampoos keep your color from fading quickly. You won’t have to get it dyed as often. This will let your hair rest and repair itself for longer between visits to the salon.
  • Color-treating shampoos will repair non-dyed hair as well. Shampoos for colored hair repair damage from color processing. That makes them some of the best shampoos for hair all damaged hair.
  • Gently shampoo your roots and scalp to remove oils. Don’t be rough when shampooing your hair, and don’t shampoo your ends if you can avoid it. If you have long damaged hair your ends are likely very dry and brittle so be careful with them. Shampoo your roots more thoroughly than your ends.
  • Use conditioner on the ends of your hair instead. A good conditioner will provide moisture and nourishment to your dry ends. You don’t need to apply conditioner to your roots or scalp because it can cause your hair to appear oily.
  • Don’t wash your hair every day because this can further damage it. Your hair produces natural oils and frequent washing can strip those away.
  • If you have oily hair, find the best dry shampoo for your hair type. Dry shampoo will absorb the excess oils without you having to wash and scrub your scalp.
